Obituary

Mr. Amos Artis, Jr. passed away peacefully on the night of Monday, November 19, 2012 at Retreat Hospital in Richmond, Virginia. He was preceded in death by two sons: Melvin (Mick) and Larry Artis; two daughters: Kathy Artis Jones and Penny; and one brother, Raymond Artis.

He was born January 15, 1936 in Emporia, Virginia to Amos Artis, Sr. and Mary Bell Artis (both deceased). He was the oldest of eight children.

Amos (Junious) was united in marriage to Lucy Malone in 1954. To this union, two children were born. He later married Maggie Coleman. To this union, six children were born.

Junious held a number of jobs; most notably as a Forklift Operator with Southern Brick Construction Company in Richmond, VA for several years. He enjoyed life and had a humorous personality.

Junious leaves to forever cherish his memory: - three sons: Wayne (Yolanda), Michael and Amos of Richmond, VA; two daughters: Vanester (Dot) Artis Williams (Rick) of Clinton, MD and Gloria Artis Harris (Carl) of Richmond, VA; a most devoted friend and confidante (first wife Pastor Lucy Rose); 21 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren: three brothers: Bishop Randolph Artis (Barbara) and Elder Harry Artis (Christine) of Richmond, VA, and Elder Roy Artis (Gracie) of Emporia, VA; three sisters: Ruby Gary (James) of Garysburg, NC, Doretha Avens of Richmond, VA, and Jean Artis of NC; seven aunts: Mary Tennessee and Rose Tennessee, Baltimore, MD; Julia Taylor and Mary Lou Elliott, Suffolk, VA; Elizabeth Tennessee, Emporia, VA, Elizabeth Tennessee, Richmond, VA, Thelma Tennessee, Drewryville, VA, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
