Obituary

Emma Jean “Austin” Mason was born September 30, 1936 in Cooper West Virginia to Langston Lee and Roberta Austin. She was a member of Mill Creek Baptist Church in West Virginia at an early age. She attended grade and middle school in West Virginia, relocated and graduated from high school in Akron Ohio. Emma moved back to Cooper West Virginia with her son and there she met and married John Dodson. Through that union John aka “Shareef” and Patricia were born. Later, Emma moved to Annapolis, MD where she worked at Crownsville Mental Institution for several years. As an adult she moved to NJ and became a member of the Universal Masonic Brotherhood and Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter # 69.

Emma was an LPN and employed at Woodbridge Developmental Center for 24 years. She worked as a supervisor of 3rd shift. Everyone knew how much of a dedicated nurse she was and she enjoyed her career. In 1992, Emma married Thomas B. Mason and moved to Richmond, Virginia where they lived after retirement. In Richmond, Emma joined the Order of Eastern Stars, Chapter #.... She joined Saint Paul Baptist Church in 2007 and enjoyed singing in the Women’s Choir.

Emma was a devoted wife, loving mother, grand and great grandmother to all her children. She kept ties with as many family members as possible no matter how far or near. A year did not pass without receiving a call, holiday or birthday card from her to give you well wishes and blessings.
