Obituary

Emma Mae Manning transitioned from labor to reward on Monday, June 3, 2019.

Born in Patrick, South Carolina on April 24, 1932, Emma was one of eight children born to West and Headow Sellers. She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings Mary Ellen Campbell, John E., David, Edward Sellers, babies Novella and Drusilla Sellers, and her husband Wilbur Manning.
Emma Mae was educated in the South Carolina Public School System. In 1948, she married Wilbur “Red” Manning, with whom she shared 71 years of marriage with.

Emma Mae was baptized at an early age at Morning Star Baptist Church in South Carolina. She later became a dedicated member of Woodville Presbyterian Church for over 60 years. Emma Mae served as a Deacon, choir member, in the food pantry, and clothes closet. In 2005, she was recognized as the Woman of the Year at Woodville Presbyterian Church. She earned a certificate of recognition from Seven Hills Health Care Center for her dedication and support to the residents and staff. She also received an Outstanding Service Award from AARP.

Emma Mae retired from Imperial Plaza after working private duty and as a nursing assistant work for roughly 40 years.

She was affectionately called “Momma” by her daughters and “Grandma” by her grandchildren. Her favorite past times were reading novels, sewing, working in the garden, and traveling, especially going back home to South Carolina.

Emma leaves her daughters, Yvonne Manning, Carolyn Spurlock (Herman), Joyce Ross; grandsons Jaynard Manning, Kevin Ross (Nikisha), and DeMario Spurlock; seven great-grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; sister Shirley Sellers, and a host of nieces and nephews; among them are devoted Bernell Houston, Doris Barnes, and Raquel Byrd, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
