Joseph Lawson McClendon was born on April 8, 1950 in Hartford, Connecticut to the late William and Mercedes McClendon. Joseph is also preceded in death by his sister Madelyn McClendon and brother in-law Samuels Harrison, Sr.

Joe joined Eastminster Presbyterian Church, served as an usher and was a member of the men’s organization. He also served in the Vietnam war as a proud marine in the 1970’s.

Joseph is survived by two sons, William and Nathaniel; a daughter, Destiny McClendon; three sisters, Anne Shaw, Emily McClendon and Sarah Martin (Artos); three brothers, Charles Robinson, William “Billy” McClendon and David Mayfield (Cheas); and a host of other relatives and friends.

Joe was loved and cared for by his wife, Mae McClendon, four devoted nieces, Seaneka, Jacquelin, Shantoya & Sabrina Hicks; one loving & caring brother-in law, Charles Craig; several devoted nephews, Chris, Sam, Elijah & Jahquan. For almost 5 years he has “loved, supported and dedicated” himself to Jahsiah, Chantele and Sani, they were the loves of his life. Joe was well known for his smile and style. He enjoyed music, sports and his western movies. Joe also loved fast cars, we can still see him in his drop top Mustang with his sun shades on, smiling down on us.

The family would like to thank cousin Peter Smith for giving Joe spiritual support, guidance and prayer; a thanks to Lotts, Joseph & Sarah Ammisah, Sheila, Janice, and Mary for your love and unselfish support.

Just continue to walk in faith, dedicate your life to Jesus and look only to him as your lord and savior.
