Henley, Mrs. Mary L. was born August 22, 1930 in Lenoir Co. N.C,, the daughter of Mr. Julius and Mrs. Mary R. Lawson and sister of the late Mr. John A. Lawson. When Mary was very young the family moved to Richmond, Va. Mary was baptized at a young age, she attended Trinity Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Abraham Lincoln James Sr. Mary was educated through the Richmond, Public School Systems, she graduated from Armstrong High School. Mary met the love of her life Mr. Benjamin Henley Jr., they later moved to Baltimore Maryland where they resided over 40 years. Mary worked for the State of Maryland for over 30 years at Spring Grove Mental Hospital. Mary and Benjamin relocated back to Richmond, Virginia. Mary later joined Greater Refuge Church under the leadership of Apostle Samuel R. Peters, where she once again felt she needed to be baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Mary is a life time member of the International Women Council of the Church Of Our Lord Jesus Christ. Mary was a faithful member until she fell sick, in 2014 the Beaufont Rehabilitation became her home, she was loved by the Staff and Nurses. Elder Roy Day and Deacon Leroy Jefferson continued to visit her, to have Church services and Communion. Mary’s health began to fade but her smile didn’t never complain until her God called her to rest.
Mary leaves to cherish her memories her aunt, Mrs. Irene Lawson Amos; two sister in laws, Ms. Bessie Henley and Mrs. Rosa Lawson; brother n law, Mr. Herman Henley Sr.; devoted niece, Patricia E. Williams (Elder Marvin); devoted great niece, Ms. Mercedes Williams, a host of nieces nephews, great nieces and great nephews, great, great nieces and nephews. Cousins family and friends that loved her dearly. A special heartfelt appreciation to the nurses and staff of Beaufont Health and Rehabilitation Center.
