We the family, pause with saddened hearts to mourn the loss of our beloved Theresa Arabella Jones. She was called home to her heavenly father on Friday, August 11, 2017. She was born to James Oliver and Ada Haskins Jones on June 6, 1932. Theresa had six children (one deceased).
Theresa was baptized at Bethia Baptist Church, Amelia, Virginia. She graduated from Russell Grove High School in Amelia, Va. While in high school she studied theater and arts, she was lead tap dancer and received several awards for State Tap Dance Competition. After graduation, Theresa moved to Philadelphia for a short period of time and returned to Richmond. After all of her children entered school, she went to Virginia Union University to further her education.
Theresa joined Bethlehem Baptist Church in January 1980 under the leadership of Rev. John B. Gordon. She was a member of the Seasoned Citizens and later was ordained as a Deaconess Theresa loved her Pastor, Dr. Victor L. Davis and her Bethlehem church family, but most importantly, she loved the Lord.
Theresa worked for Richmond Redevelopment Housing Authority and later Richmond public Schools where she retired after 30 years of service.
Theresa was preceded in death by her parents James Oliver and Ada Haskins Jones, son Herbert Britton Jones and great-grand son Brenton Tahjae Jones, four sisters and one brother.
Theresa leaves to cherish her loving memories, her children, Bernard (Patricia), Pamela, Anita, Kenneth and Steven Jones ( Samatha); grandchildren, Tiwanda, Jerrell (Chaquita) and Quincy Jones, Britny Hatcher (Nakea), Britanica Travers (Keith), LaNijah and Amar Williams and Rodney Roane; five great-grandchildren, Jaiden Jones, Te'a Turner, Xavier Wilson, Nyla and Nakea Hatcher; a dedicated sister, Otelia Booker (Aunt Tee) and nephew Michael Wiley (Belinda), along with a host of nieces, great-nieces, nephews and great-nephews, cousins and friends.
Deaconess Theresa Arabella Jones’s legacy will be remembered by the life she lived and those that were touched by her.
