Stanley Edward Ames, Jr., lovingly known as “Stan the Man” departed this life on Friday, February 1, 2019. He was born on January 27, 1948 in Harlem NY, and was a son of the late Stanley Edward and Rose Maria (Smith) Ames. He was the 3rd of five children. He was preceded in death by a sister, Gloria P. Taylor; and a brother, Pierre A. Ames.

Stan received his early education at Saint Lucy's Parochial School, P.S. 109, William Ettinger J.H.S. 13 in Spanish Harlem. He attended Power Memorial High School and LaGuardia Community College CUNY in Long Island City, NY.

He had an enjoyable childhood growing up in The Washington Houses where he made lifelong friends whom he remained in contact with throughout his life.

Stan loved his family dearly and was a dedicated son, brother, and uncle. He was a kind, humble, gentle man who was quick witted, easy to get along with, soft spoken and outgoing! He was personable, well liked and would always greet you with a big warm smile!

His hobbies and interests included handcrafts, a comic book collection and baseball cards dating back to the 50s. He loved all genres of music and had an extensive collection of vinyl albums, 45s, CDs, DVDs and was very proud of the movies he recorded on VHS tapes. Stan was an avid reader and subscribed to various magazines and book clubs. He absolutely loved the outdoors and going fishing whether on the pier, boat or sitting on the rocks! He enjoyed watching sports and had favorite teams, players and boxers! Everyone got a big kick out of his enthusiasm and eagerness to see his teams win!

Stan enjoyed socializing and entertaining. He was an active member of his community in East Elmhurst, N.Y. from 1966 until relocating to Richmond, VA in the spring of 1989. He attended Riverside Pace, a program of all-inclusive care, a day facility for the elderly. He was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church in Richmond.

Stan is survived by sisters Maria-Franceta Ames, Evangeline Catherine Ames; nephews Aaron Taylor, Damyon Taylor, Anjasha Ames, TraVaughn Ames, Marcel Ames, Alexandre Ames; great nephew Cameron Taylor; nieces Chantel Taylor, Olivia Ames; and a host of extended family, and friends.
